GreenPower Motor Company manufactures a complete line of heavy and medium-duty all-electric vehicles, including models with lower and high floors. Their flagship vehicle is the EV Star Cab & Chassis platform, which can accommodate many different upfits and bodies for multiple applications. The platform's design is based on a clean paper that allows for the best placement of the battery pack and a lower center of gravity. This results in better range/payload ratios.
The EV Star REEFERX was designed for mid-to-last mile refrigerated deliveries and catering applications. GreenPower has joined forces with Perrone Robotics to up-fit the EV Star with their TONY (To Navigate You) autonomous vehicle system, which will allow fleets to easily change to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star will also be able to support wireless charging up to 75 kW.
We had the opportunity to test drive the EV9 for a few hours on a local freeway, and found it to be a breeze to drive and comfortable for long distances. The acceleration of the vehicle is astonishingly quick, and it features adjustable regenerative brakes that allow "one-pedal driving" simply by releasing the accelerator.
The EV9 provides a large range and can be recharged in three hours or less at home, or using any commercial charger. Eco mode is a great way to increase the power and cruise control, as well as handling, while sport mode increases speed. GreenPower offers several other eVehicles that include a multi-purpose all-electric minibus dubbed the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA-compliant and can be used as executive shuttles, transit or microtransit vanpools, buses, and paratransit vehicles.
GreenPower is already producing about 10 EV Star buses per month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority, which is attempting to replace their fleet of diesel vehicles with 100 electric vehicles. GreenPower will increase production to meet the demand of the Biden Administration who is planning to electrify all school buses in America.
